Buffalo Food

i’ve lost count of the number of people i know who grew up in buffalo, moved to another city, and then came back to buffalo because they missed the food. i’m hungry, so i thought i would list — in no specific order — my favorite buffalo meals:

– chicken malai at taste of india

– blackened salmon caesar salad at cozumel

– zad’s dinner (chicken souvlaki pieces, hummus, and fresh veggies) at village grille

– grilled pork chops at boomerangs

– arlington street (chicken breast sandwich with bacon, provolone, and bbq sauce) at gabriel’s gate

– capesante amalfi (seared sea scallops in linomcello saffron cream) at trattoria aroma

– bruce bowl (lentil soup with shredded cheese, onion, and hot sauce) at amy’s place

– rotisserie chicken, saffron rice with black eyed peas, and plantains at niagara cafe

– honey yogurt, granola, and berries with greek salad at pano’s

– seared ahi tuna and house salad (mixed greens, dried cranberries, apricots, caramelized walnuts, goat cheese with balsamic vinaigrette) at the globe market

– fillet mignon at rue franklin

– chicken parm with side of pasta at santasieros

– medium wings at the anchor bar (saturday night only — chicken wings don’t taste right without live jazz in front of them)

– tofu scramble at cybeles (RIP)

– unagi nigiri (freshwater eel) and smoked mackerel with spicy corn salsa at kuni’s (RIP)

okay, now i’m really hungry. i’m making myself stop.

feel free to chime in with your favorite buffalo meals. of course, if you’re not familiar with buffalo, let me hear what meals you would miss if you had to leave your current home town.

so it goes

after over 70 years of chain smoking filterless pall malls as a form of passive suicide, kurt vonnegut finally found death at 84.

i did an undergraduate thesis on vonnegut (christ-worshipping agnostic: the poison-coated sugar pills of kurt vonnegut), so i can say with some degree of confidence that i have read every published word the man wrote.

here’s hoping he died grinning horribly and thumbing his nose at you-know-who.
